Muskellunge Survive

Back in 1971, the Ministry of Natural Resources stocked 1000 full-grown muskellunge into the lake and they stocked another 50 in 1972. Most who fish the lake regularly have seen or even been lucky enough to catch one. I say lucky because they put up quite a fight - one you won't forget! Last weekend, my son found a 7" long juvenile musky swimming in close to shore, looking for minnows, right in front of our home. He had found another one back in August of this year over near our beach. So they are continuing to reproduce!

I've seen muskies up to four feet long and I've heard fisherman's tales of some over five feet long in the lake and down near the dam. While they are a predator fish, and some say they are a nuisance fish, they are nevertheless quite interesting to watch. And they are interesting to see if you are snorkeling around shoals or weedbeds.
