Rusty's Back !

You will recall my earlier posting about Rusty - the Red-Breasted Nuthatch. Well - the little lady in this picture may not resemble Rusty of the earlier posting - but it's her. She looks sort of rough, with feathers sticking out everywhere and no distinctive plumage colours except for two or three tiny rusty coloured pin feathers on her breast. And the reason she looks this rough is that she's been very, very busy raising two babies. She returned last week, with the babies, after a disappearance of several months back up in Beaver Valley - near Mud Lake. She is currently trying to teach the babies how to find seeds buried in tree bark. We're giving her ground up shelled peanuts to hide. She hides the peanut pieces and then guides the babies to near where they are hidden.

And what's sort of funny - the babies are about 2/3 Rusty's size and with full coloured plumage !

More on Rusty later......
