Slush - A Nasty Surprise!

It can catch you off guard. You rarely see it early enough; you can barely walk through it; and you can get very wet and very cold trying to get out of it. It can cause you a lot of hard work and if you're not fast enough - your snowmobile can literally get frozen to the lake.

Yes, I'm writing about SLUSH - one of the nastiest winter problems lake snowmobilers can experience.

There are now spots of slush appearing on Loon Lake. Even the very cold nights and windy days don't freeze the slush hiding below the snow surface. Particularly bad spots so far this year are the entire south end of the lake along the West Shore and in First Bay.

It's best to follow established snowmobile paths across the lake to hopefully avoid getting stuck.
