For years, we've heard that Bald Eagles do live in this area. We've seen the huge birds circling high in the skies in the Portage Lake area. We've seen two birds last year - one on the way into town and the other sitting atop a tree near the Minden lookout. And this past summer, a neighbour photographed one at the cliff near Portage Lake. This bird was photographed by us this past week, using a trailcam, and was feeding on a deerhunters gutpile just north west of our home. It was there for two days and even partnered with a flock of seven ravens to clean up the bush. When we walked into the area on the first day, the bird flew by us at tree top height and did not seen too concerned that we were nearby.
