Winter at Loon Lake

P1050026

As I write this, the temperature outside is –25 degrees C, with no wind chill factor. At that temperature, wood frame buildings creak and snap like the forest trees. The noise makes an interesting alarm clock! We have about eight inches of snow on the ground and the lake remains frozen. Roof snow is not yet deep. There was slush on the lake a couple of days ago and no doubt will remain in spots because of the lake snow cover. Snowmobiles continue to use the lake and there is one wooden fish hut in First Bay. Roads around the lake remain good and Highway 118 was bare in this area yesterday. My sidebar link to the MTO can be a good source to find out the condition of roads throughout Ontario. Above picture is “steaming” slush in the early morning !
