Around Loon Lake–March 8, 2012

P1050077

Rocks are frequently seen on the road along this portion of Highway 118. Something happened after I drove by at 4:30 this afternoon... This picture, taken from First Point at 6:15 pm shows emergency crews clearing the westbound lane of the highway and removing rocks from the hillside.

We’re still in winter although to-day’s high of 13 deg C signalled the coming of spring. There is a significant melt occurring and the snow is becoming very wet and sticky. The lake is a real mess with deep slush everywhere. It’s not really good for walking or snowmobiling. Roads are partially bare with some ice patches.
