From Simpler Times…

EnlargeTmp 5x7

A few weeks ago, I published a story about the history of the Gregory Road Bridge and the underlying Burnt River.

This week, while sorting through a 35mm slide collection, I came across this interesting photo. Notice the width of the river under the bridge; the wooden cribs; and the huge stringers  topped with decking made from smaller wooden beams. Some of those decking beams can still be found lying on the river bottom downstream from the bridge. And notice the guardrails. It looks like perhaps the downstream one may have been hit by a vehicle and knocked over the edge of the bridge!
