Rarely Seen on Loon Lake

P1050151

This is a Red Necked Grebe. It is one of a pair we’ve had visiting for the past few days. The Grebe’s habits are similar to that of the Loon – including the carrying of young on one’s back.

We’ve had Grebe’s here before but not for many years. They’re real fish eaters and the pair spent the better part of their time here diving over our shoal.

We are on a migration path for these birds and they are probably headed further north to the Cochrane area. We wish them a safe journey !
