This is Rusty. You may remember I wrote about her a long time ago. She’s a female red-breasted nuthatch and just returned after an absence of a little over one year. It’s unbelievable just how aggressive and intelligent she is – readily letting you know what she wants either by chirping or landing on your hand and taking your soft flesh in her beak and gently squeezing ! She will zip around you when you’re walking and even dive bomb from quite a height. This year she brought back a mate so hopefully there’ll be offspring this summer !
