A Tough Winter !

It's very rare to see a resting deer, let alone one resting on the ice!

This mature deer is resting because it has slowed down it's  metabolism for survival and it is tired from walking around looking for food. One of eleven staying together at our end of the lake, it is  surviving without supplemental feeding.

While the snow remains deep in the bush, it is not as bad on the lake. That is why the deer are spending so much time wandering the shorelines eating brush and cedar leaves.

Luckily, we've been in a slight daytime warming trend and the snow has gone down, perhaps two centimeters.
