Thick Ice on Loon Lake

To-day I measured the ice thickness at a distance of 100 m (328ft) offshore at First Point.

The ice is 56.4 cm (22.5 inches) thick. And there is a snow covering of 20.3 cm (8 inches).

For this time of year, the ice is thicker than previous years by about 25%.

It will be interesting to not only see when the ice goes off the lake but the effect it will have on the spring freshet!
