Family Day Weekend Coming

This little guy's a Dark Eyed Junco. We think he got separated earlier from his flock since Junco's generally don't stay in this part of the country for the winter. He's a seed eating ground feeder, so he's been eating sunflower seeds spilled to the round by our other feeding birds. We keep the ground free from snow build up under the feeders so he can eat every morning when he arrives!

He's surviving quite well!

If you're coming up for Family Day Weekend, we have between 12 and 15 inches of snow on the ground and the roads are well plowed. Snow on north-facing roofs is deeper because of lack of sunlight and drifting. We've had bitter cold weather with temperatures around minus 15 degC before wind chill. The lake is ice covered and the river is closing in with ice. There are seven ice huts on the lake.
