Glad to be back at Loon Lake after a short camping trip away.
Came back to find our bird feeders empty and most of our winter birds back! We await the arrival of our red-breasted nuthatch and both the downy and hairy woodpeckers.
Fall - hard to believe!
While there's not much fall colour yet, our water levels are almost to the average level for this time of year. The Trent Severn Waterway predicts that our levels will slowly continue to drop.
There's some interesting activity at the creek at the Loon Lake Road and Highway 118. The concrete box culvert under the highway is being made longer. There's huge pumps in place that are diverting water from Wenona Lake around the construction site through big hoses pushed through culverts under the highway. The water then follows the creek to Loon Lake.
I wonder if the highway will eventually be widened at this bend!
Still on the subject of culverts, when driving in the Gregory Lane, I noticed that there's about twenty rocks on each side of the new culvert that have been pushed into the river. While this in itself is not good, the absence of protective rocks exposes the existing road fill to possible erosion. Something to be fixed!
Enjoy the coming of Fall - the weather forecast for the next week looks good!
