Around Loon Lake - March 10

We are in a Springtime meltdown with the snow rapidly disappearing - the  depth in the bush being about 6 inches. Lake ice has a lot of water on top, making travel unpleasant and slippery. The ice thickness was sixteen inches two weeks ago , but it would have thinned substantially by now.

A lot of ice has disappeared from the Burnt River.

The Gregory Lane has gravel exposed in spots from the highway to the end of Moccasin Trail - with the exception of the first big hill, which is covered with hard, slippery ice.

On a really positive note, we've had geese flying over the lake; starlings and red-winged blackbirds have arrived; and we saw our first chipmunk today!

Enjoy the coming March Break!
