Here's a perfect midsummer mystery.....
The MNR recently completed a netting survey for lake trout in our lake. The results of that survey indicated almost no trout in the lake ( a few hatchery fish were caught in the nets ) . Depth soundings marked no fish.
Since it started stocking lake trout in our lake in 1981, the MNR has stocked
close to 53,000 lake trout in the lake, according to their stocking records.
So why were there virtually no lake trout on this latest netting survey ?
That's the mystery !
And particularly since Loon Lake is thought to be the perfect lake trout habitat.
The results of the survey are being studied by the MNR and I will be meeting with them sometime in October to review the survey and their findings with them.
In the meantime, I'll be wondering " Where have they gone ? "
