Lakewater Level

Today, September 1st, I sat on our front deck and watched as the water was starting to break over the big rock out front. I thought that it was a bit early for this to happen! Wanting to know just how much the lakewater level has dropped since the high water mark, I went out to a vertical rock face on the lake and measured the distance from the high water mark to the surface. The distance measured 68.6 cm, or 27 inches ! That's quite a drop - and a lot of water out of the lake ! There's still a strong current in the Burnt River so there's still lots of water going over the dam! I can rembember a few decades ago when the shoal out front of our home was actually above water and you could walk out on it in sneakers. I wonder if that'll happen again this year ? We'll see......
