Is it a Loon ? Is it a Comorant ?

For the past two days, two Loons have been busy feeding around the shoal in front of our home. They must be the same Loons that return each year since they come to the same feeding spot and have the same swimming patterns on the lake ! Except yesterday - one of them was behaving differently ! It swam in closer to shore and dove in spots where traditionally dinner isn't found. Wondering what was happening, we grabbed our binoculars and started to watch. What we saw was a bird with a slightly longer neck, a redish-brown patch on it's throat, and white cheeks, but with the same general shape as a Loon. Not sure, we grapped our "Birds of Ontario" book by Andy Bezener, and found our new visitor on page 39. We had a Red-Necked Grebe ! While still in it's breeding colours, it's no doubt passing through, on it's way to nesting grounds in Northern Ontario.
