Watching the evolution of the just-hatched chick to a full grown adult is fascinating ! Each week, the parents guide the chick through another stage in it's life. Yesterday, I watched as the parents floated at a distance, out in the open lake, as the chick swam around on it's own. The parents have been moving the chick out further into the lake, away from it's nest area, each week. And the chick is now swimming with the parents, looking down into the water, as they do, hopefully to find food !
