A Different Summer So Far !

It's July 15 and that puts us well into the summer season.

But you'd never know it.

We haven't really had any extended stretch of beautiful warm, sunny, sultry, summer days ! The lake has warmed up but not as warm as it can be for this time of year. Notably, there's not the activity on the lake that we usually see by now. Not even on the weekends. There's nowhere near the number of boaters and not even that many boats out fishing - particularly near Gull islands in the evenings . We notice that there's frequently wood smoke in the evenings as people try to take away any evening chill in their cottages.

Going into town shopping, we notice there isn't the crowds of people walking Main Street. And there's always a spot in the grocery store parking lot !

I wonder why it's different ....could the difference in the weather be related to "Global Warming" or some other phenomenon ?

And could the differences in levels of activity be related to the general absences of people - perhaps because of high gas costs and increasing costs of everything ?

Or because of generational shifts ?

Or is it some kind of cycle ?

We'll probably never know......but it's interesting to watch and think about.
