Winter Update

To-night was Haliburton's Santa Claus Parade. Beautiful lit floats with a lot of participation. We wouldn't miss it ! And it was cold , -10 degC with a wind blowing along Main Street. That's the same cold weather that's allowed the three inches of snow to stay on the ground and cause most of the smaller lakes and ponds to ice over early! Loon Lake hasn't froze yet, but there's some icing in the bays. We're seeing a lot of northern ducks stopping by on their flight south! Stump Lake (the Burnt River) is about 80% ice covered. And of course none of the ice will support weight! The roads from the highway on the West shore are quite driveable but with some icy sections. We're having the first wind in a week and it's starting to remove a lot of the snow that was stuck to the trees from the last storm.
