The ongoing story of our loons ends happily ! After watching intently for the past couple of weeks, we can confidently say that both young loons left to fly south for the winter. We noticed that the one youngster that was coming to our shoal every morning about 7:30 for it's breakfast suddenly stopped showing up. And the other youngster that we kept seeing when we went to get our mail suddenly was gone. It was quite interesting to watch the youngster at our shoal each morning. It would come in very close to shore each morning to watch our birds at the feeders, almost as if it felt a connection to them !
Interestingly, the day before the water at the culvert on Hwy 118 froze, the blue heron too decided to fly south.....
