I don't think I've ever seen weather like what we've had today at Loon Lake. We've had a melting spell and I thought it was all gone until this morning when I discovered it was at +12 degC at 6 AM. Then there were very strong tree dropping winds with mist changing to snow throughout the day as the temperature lowered to 0 degC at 6 PM. That's a drop of 12 degrees in 12 hours! We've lost over 15 inches of snow and the lake has melted considerably, causing numerous areas of "blow holes" to form across the ice pan.
This photo shows the condition of the lake late in the day.
I can only wonder if this weird weather is somehow linked to what is being described as "global warming trends"......
