Welcome Feeder Friends

A couple of days ago, two Pine Grossbeaks arrived at our feeders. The male is a beautiful red colour and the female is a tawny brown colour. These birds come from the far northern boreal forests. They both have white flashes on their wings. To-day, we have eight - four males and four females. So the word about our feeders must have spread! They are very friendly birds and do not seem to fear humans. They absolutely love black-oil sunflower seeds and it's amazing to watch them split open a shell with their seed beaks and extract the seed - all within a few seconds. We hope they decide to stay for a while!
