Loon Lake is a great lake for raising young loons. Seen late last evening - a pair of adults with one very young chick! The new arrival couldn't be more than a week old and is the size of your closed hand. We've been watching a known nest for a while and weren't seeing any activity.
We thought the cause was because of the fluctuating water levels which would make it very difficult to nest. And we had wondered if perhaps they'd moved the nest and we're glad to see they did.
We'll be keeping an eye on the youngster and reporting it's progress into the world!

About Loon Lake ....
Loon Lake is located in South-Central Ontario, about 8 miles east of the town of Haliburton. The center of the lake is located at N 45 00.971 and W 78 22.614 , in GPS terminology. Taking the top of the picture as North, the lake is 1.25 miles in an East-West direction and 1.58 miles in a North-South direction. The deepest measurment recorded in the lake is 114 feet.
