Invading Species Found In River

To-day, a lone Purple Loosestrife plant was removed from the waters of Loon Lake and destroyed. The healthy plant was found on the south shore of the Burnt River about one-half way between the culvert on the Gregory Lane and the dam. The plant, about four feet high, had two stalks left from last year and thirteen new stalks grown this year. It had a substantial root structure and had to be dug from the river bed.

While it's "bad" news that the plant was found growing in Loon Lake waters, there is "good" news in that the plant was safely gathered for disposal and that there were three Galerucella beetles discovered on it's leaves.
