This is a young Kingfisher who is just learning to fly. You can see from the picture that it's tailfeathers are not even fully developed. It lives near the large culvert on the Burnt River flowing from Loon Lake. We saw it's mother a few weeks ago and from her behaviour, we expected that a baby was nearby. Patient watching finally allowed us to get this picture.
