Our Resident Wolf Pack

The wolves that ate the moose are still in the area. This past weekend we found a deer that had been chased to a steep hill where it fell and died. It was then promptly eaten by the wolves. We're seeing quite a few piles of wolf scat in different areas - all containing deer hair. And there are a lot of wolf tracks on roads and in lowlands. We found one wolf footprint on the weekend that was just under eight centimeters [3"] across. That's one big wolf !

It's no wonder that the deer population in this area has dropped to levels that existed about 30 years ago.

It will be interesting this winter to see more of the wolf activity once there's some snow on the ground.
