Around the Lake

Snow is down significantly in the bush and is almost completely gone on south facing slopes. Roads on each side of the lake are not yet fully drivable. On the Loon Lake Road , snow pack conditions with deep frozen snow ruts exist past one-half way down the lake. On the west side of the lake, Gregory Lane is not drivable past Beaver Valley and the snow is hard packed. Only where both main roads have been consistently plowed during the winter, is the road free from snow and ice. The lake water level continues to rise and Gull Islands went underwater yesterday. The ice is out about twelve feet from shore in many places BUT each night, the temperature drops enough to form a thin layer of ice on the thawed twelve feet - very deceptive and not safe at all!

Whether or not the ice goes out around it's traditional third week in April is any one's guess right now. Mother Nature is remarkably consistent !
