Yesterday a deer kill by wolves on the East shore of the lake was reported to me. This makes a total of four known deer kills by wolves so far this winter - right around the lake's perimeter. This could have quite an effect on the deer population this year if it continues. A few weeks ago, six deer were chased out onto Drag Lake by wolves and all six deer drowned. This increase in deer kills and general wolf activity is not normal for this area. Whether or not it has anything to do with an exodus of wolves from the Algonquin Park area or the fact that wolves are protected in this area, I have no idea at this time. But I'm researching it!
