This morning, at about 7:30, the area supervisor with the Trent Severn Waterway [TSW] called me to discuss my ice problem. He offered not to get any more aggressive with water collection for now. We agreed that the warmer weather forecast for the end of the week should significantly slow down the nightly making of ice by the lake. And while the warmer weather may in fact increase snow melt during daytime hours, at least it won’t be helping create several inches of ice at night.
Not a perfect solution, but still better than none.
And the TSW offer to maintain the status quo of water collection is generous!
The TSW started collecting water earlier this year because of less snow on the ground; because of the lack of water contained in the snow; and because of the dry ground [melted snow may get absorbed and not run into the lakes]. They are concerned they may not have enough water for managing operations this summer.
