Discovering where Walleye spawn on Loon Lake is a decades old mystery, always perplexing and with inconsistent results. This year, I expanded the study by adding additional sites and was determined to study Gull Islands to see what was happening on the spawning shoal immediately after ice-out. The results weren’t surprising and have led me to make a conclusion about the spawning. Of particular interest was my discovery at Gull Islands. That site will be pursued further next year and I will be studying another area that definitely has the potential to be a spawning area. I have completed this year’s Walleye Watch program for the MNR and have submitted my survey.
