Purple Loosestrife is readily seen throughout southern Ontario but is starting to be seen in our area. It grows very fast and can completely choke a marshland. As such it is deemed to be an Invasive Species. Yesterday, I found half a dozen plants growing alongside the creek that flows into Loon Lake from Winona Lake , at the east end of Loon Lake. Since the roots were impossible to dig out in their location, I cut the stocks just above the waterline and put them into a large plastic garbage bag for disposal in a local landfill site.
