On September 3/11, a cottager reported to me that she thought she had found a dead loon in Stump Lake on the August 20 weekend. That is about the time we could not find the loon youngster ourselves. Since then we have checked several times, both in Stump Lake and in Loon Lake, sometimes taking up to three hours watching the parents for any signs of the youngster. Initially, the parents were very distraught when they were approached, but now they are not.
If anyone sees the young loon, please send me a comment or an email noting the date, time, and location. The youngster would be about the same size as an adult loon, would be a greyish-brown, would not have necklace, and would probably be straying some distance from the parents.
