Our Ice Conditions

The thickness of Loon Lake’s ice was measured at 6 inches yesterday. And this was blue ice – much stronger than white ice. The location was between the mainland and the middle-sized island. There is about 8 inches of powdered snow on the lake and it drifts constantly. Slushy spots and “blowholes” do exist on the lake.  Because of the very odd weather we’ve been getting, ice formation may be more inconsistent and unlike other years. While one must always be careful going out on the ice, it may pay to be more so this year.
