Haliburton's First Pond Hockey Championship

This picture was taken at the Canadian National Pond Hockey Championships held, for the first time, this weekend in Haliburton. Two sites were used - one on Head Lake at the town dock and the other on the pond at the Pinestone. The Championships are being held over two weekends and there are 240 teams registered.

We've been watching volunteers and town employees busy preparing the rinks in town during the past bitterly cold week. And they did a super job - making ice as it should be for playing hockey - level, hard, and with no cracks!

The game isn't what you watch on TV since there are no boards, no lines, no goaltenders, no linesmen or referees, no physical contact allowed, and a goal "net" that isn't over a foot high.

Skill and a lot of fun!
