Loon Lake's March Break

For those planning to come North for even a portion of the March Break, expect to see Winter still here!  The roads on each side of the lake are well plowed as they normally are each year. The parking lot on Gregory Lane has been well maintained throughout the Winter and remains that way now. Be aware that there are melted and refrozen sections creating some icy patches on all roads.

Be careful approaching and crossing the new culvert on the Burnt River, since there has been some ice and the road slopes to the West.

The lake has about 12" of a mix of wet snow, frozen slush, and wet slush on the ice. There is a hard pack on the surface, making limited walking possible.

The bush has between 15" and 18" of snow on the ground. There is hard pack on the snow, again making limited walking possible.

Snow on roofs has been melting and north facing roofs have close to 6" of snow in some spots with occasional deeper drifts.

The main highways in the area have been well serviced all Winter and remain excellent . Do refer to the MTO web site (referenced on the sidebar as "Winter Road Conditions") for road conditions in this area before traveling.
