Early Summer Activity at Loon Lake

It's July 6 and probably the first real day of summer ! This week we discovered that there are still Herons nesting near Loon Lake. There are three nests and all of them have young birds in them. It's absolutely fascinating to watch them as they move around in the nests, their pink bodies trying to get as much space as they can.

On a different front, as I went to go into my boathouse today, I saw what looked like a huge toad on the walkway. Not wearing my glasses I had to wait until I got closer to confirm what I saw. Much to my surprise, as I got closer, I recognized a pile of BEAR scat. It was a small pile, probably from a cub or a yearling but it was very fresh. And it was full of berries and seeds. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see it and take some photos. I suspect there's a mother nearby, but we'll find out over the next couple of days !
