To-day I received the results of last years testing for the presence of Zebra Mussels and Spiny Water Fleas in Loon Lake. Results show that we are still clear of these invaders.
A week ago I collected water samples near the public boat launch; at the deepest part in the lake; and at a random location. It will be in July of next year that I receive the results for 2013.
We remain very lucky that we have not been invaded. In 2012, Spiny Water Fleas were discovered in nearby Boshkung Lake, Drag Lake; and Kushog Lake.
The existence of the public boat launch almost guarantees that we will eventually have a problem as boats from other lakes are launched into Loon Lake.
