You have probably noticed that loon activity on our lake has been minimal this year and that there are not many loons. In fact, there has been only one actual "pair" sighted. This pair has tried twice to have young and have been unsuccessful. Each time they have tried, the nest has been abandoned and the egg has been left behind. It is reasonable to say that Loon Lake will be without any loon chicks this year.
Our lake has very few good nesting locations and our water level is susceptible to the demands of the Trent Severn Waterway; making nesting very difficult for loons.
