Conditions around Loon Lake are certainly like Winter!
The lake is frozen with an ice thickness of one foot of ice consisting of six inches of white ice and six inches of blue ice recorded in the First Bay and an ice thickness of four inches reported on the East Shore. There is snow and some slush on top of the ice.
Because of the early season and the delayed freezing of some portions of the lake, the thickness of the ice cannot be trusted and it would be wise to be very careful if going onto the ice (as always). Point areas, shoal areas, and areas of mouths of known streams or rivers are particularly dangerous.
When in doubt, stay off the ice.
The Burnt River is partially frozen with a very low water level.
In the bush there is about 18 inches of snow with some hard pack on top. Roofs in the area, particularly north facing or shaded, have over 18 inches of snow on them.
The Loon Lake road is plowed to it's normal winter location.
The Gregory Lane is plowed from the highway to the top of the first large hill and thence to the end of Moccasin Trail. Minimal clearing has been done on the Gregory Lane past Moccasin Trail. The parking lot between Highway 118 and the Gregory Lane culvert is cleared.
Main highways in the area are excellent.
We did not get the ice storm to the extent of many areas in Ontario and there is only a very thin layer of ice on tree branches. There have not been high winds to bring down branches.
Our Hydro power throughout the Ontario ice storm remained very stable with no significant outages.
