It's minus 31 degrees right now and it was quite the night because of the combination of the cold temperature and the high winds causing lots of creaking and cracking in the old wood frame! We haven't had any more snow in a few days so the roads and serviced driveways around Loon Lake remain cleared. The local highways remain well maintained. Loon Lake has good walking conditions on the ice.
We've had a couple of herds of deer in the immediate area for the past two weeks as the cold weather and deep snow is forcing them out of the bush to the lake, roads and properties. They are still eating twigs and cedar bushes so they are not into a critical feeding situation yet.
These two caused quite a ruckus with our birds as they checked out the feeders - and snacked on some black oil sunflower seeds!
