Our Winter's First Deer Kill

This carcass is what remains of this winter's first kill on the ice. We're not sure exactly what killed the animal but we do know the carcass didn't last long. We spent a lot of time watching in the early and late hours of the day but we saw no wolves.

What we did see were huge ravens and a Bald Eagle. There are eagles in the area and we've previously seen the remains of deer kills almost totally eaten by them.

The kill occurred just north of the government landing and opposite the channel between the two islands - an area almost impossible to access at the time of the kill because of ice we considered unsafe for us to walk on.
