That's a new term I'd never heard before this morning! It was explained by Dave Phillips of Environment Canada on Canada AM today. He described it a sort of a "gear pump" with two gears spinning toward each other, pumping down weather from Canada's Polar Regions. Extreme cold mixed with different combinations of snow, freezing rain, sleet, and just about everything else.
And that's what we got last night at Loon Lake! This morning there were deep drifts of wet snow, some spots over 1 1/2 feet deep. And wet snow stuck to everything. Nasty stuff - and almost impossible to shovel or blow until the temperature drops considerably.
I'll wait a couple of days!
On the good side, our snow plower, Hawk River, had the road open just after six o'clock this morning - plowed in from the highway to the end of Moccasin Trail.
To me , that's good service, and service that is essential throughout our Northern winter.
