Project FeederWatch Shutdown

With the loon, the kingfisher, the goose, and the heron returning to the area, it was time to shut down our bird feeders that we run as part of Project Feederwatch, a program of Birdstudies Canada.

Here's a link to the Feederwatch website to learn about the program:

http://feederwatch.org/

We have been recording bird sightings at our feeders for six seasons and this year we saw 14 species including the American Tree Sparrow, the Mourning Dove, the Pileated Woodpecker, the Purple Finch, and the Red-breasted Nuthatch.

Each week we watch birds for two successive days and submit the data electronically to Bird Studies Canada.

It's a fascinating citizen scientist program and we get many visitors other than birds at our feeders: red and black squirrels, flying squirrels, raccoons, foxes, and deer. All of them wanting to get food - suet or seeds that have spilled to the ground.
