This isn't your typical "Rockfest" ! These people came out to remove rocks from the Gregory Lane Culvert on August 30/14.
Truly a strong community spirit !
While rocks in the bottom of the culvert were requested by the governmental agencies for fish passage, the contractor and the consulting engineer placed excessive rocks up to a depth of thirty-one inches in the culvert. The rocks are believed to have contributed toward the April 2013 flooding and washout of the Gregory Lane that cost it's owners over $10,000 to repair.
This is the same culvert wherein I have posted pictures of the terrible blockages of stone and the ongoing erosion of the embankments.
While the stone is now gone, the embankment erosion remains to be repaired and other issues remain unsolved. Currently, the contractor has pulled back from the problem and the consulting engineer continues to disappoint.
A complaint has been filed with Professional Engineers Ontario naming both the engineer who designed the water crossing and his employer.
The Fall season when repairs to deficiencies can be made is fast approaching and as of this publishing no acceptable plans have been produced. An ultimatum was given to the consulting engineer but he failed to meet his deadline.
This is troubling, for there is likely to be severe erosion on the unprotected embankments during the 2015 Spring freshet unless the repairs are done this Fall.
And that could render the Gregory Lane unusable for a lengthy period next year.
For now, we can only hope that a solution lies ahead !
