If it looks cold, it is! The temperature here is -25C and there's a fog in the air. It's early in the day so the wind hasn't started. Each day for the past three weeks has been pretty well the same; although some mornings have a spectacular sunrise. Once the wind starts, the temperatures drop to around -35C with the wind chill, making it all but impossible to go outside.
There has also been snow, and yesterday I removed another half meter of drifted snow from my north facing roofs.
Snow on the ground is now the same depths as other years, being just over two-thirds of a meter deep. And more where it's drifted.
While I don't know how thick the ice on the lake is, I do know that there was considerable slush under the thick blanket of snow lying on top of the ice last weekend. This makes travel on the lake very difficult.
The roads on both sides of the lake are cleared as in other years and our highways remain clear, but somewhat salt laden, for travel. Can't wait to wash the car - but it must get warmer or everything freezes up!
While it's been persistently colder than past years, and we've had snow, our weather has been not been as severe as people in our Easter Provinces have experienced. We're fortunate.
Spring is on the way......
