Last night, at 1:45 am, this Barred Owl was at our bird feeding station trying to catch mice or flying squirrels. Both the mice and the flying squirrels feed on seed spilled onto the ground from the feeders. Sometimes the flying squirrels will eat only on the feeder tray. Much safer!
The owl has been in the area most of the winter and we saw wing marks on the snow several weeks ago indicating it had swooped after something.
The owl isn't here every night but we are certainly on it's dinner route!
