Unheard of! This morning it's +10 deg C outside and raining. While Environment Canada says that's about to change, it's nevertheless unbelievable that winter hasn't really set in yet. Any trace amount of snow we had on the ground at the start of the week has gone and Loon Lake remains unfrozen - although ponds and smaller lakes like Paradise still had a thin layer of ice on them yesterday.
As of now, roads around the lake are still good for travel and of course the highways remain excellent. Although on Highway 118 there have been incidents of black ice, particularly on the approach to Dover's Hill from the east.
We note that some deer have been coming out of the bush and staying along the North-West shoreline area of the lake. What has happened though is that there are now wolves in our area, following the deer. The other night, a wolf crossed our back lawn, leaving it's footprints behind. This behaviour happened a few years ago, leading to several deer kills in the immediate area and out on the lake. The deer population in the area is a way down, so hopefully this doesn't happen again!
