Around Loon Lake - Low Water

It's June 22 and our water levels are fast approaching an all time low for this time of year! The water level is so low that Gull Islands are now well above the water.

We were warned last week by the Trent Severn Waterway that they would start drawing water this week for the canal system.

The immediate possible consequence is that the Loon may have problems with her nest; but as of last evening she was still on the eggs.

(As an aside, two Seagull chicks were born this week and are out on the lake with their parents.)

Long term, it will be interesting to see how low the water levels go later in the season, given that the Stump Lake dam is going to undergo renovations this winter.
