Dissolved Oxygen Test Results - Group A
This is a set of curves resulting from measurements taken by me on September 28, 2016.
The water depth at the test location was 27 meters and I stopped recording at 26 meters to keep the equipment probe away from the bottom sediment. I have recorded the GPS coordinates at the location to maintain consistency for future testing.
I am calling this set of measurements Group A.
The dissolved oxygen (DO) curve (Green) shows the DO levels remarkably predictable and consistent to a considerable depth. The temperature curve (Blue) clearly shows a rapid drop in temperature over a relatively short distance. This rapid change defines what is called the Thermocline.
The testing was done with a meter loaned to me by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. I have offered to do another test immediately after ice-out 2017. I will call that set of measurements Group B.
The purpose of the testing is to study the effects of winter ice cover on the DO concentrations in Loon Lake.
Once I have all of the information, I will then review and write a paper for the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change about the effects of the winter ice cover.
